Tony Hawk & Birdhouse - Tampa

Tony Hawk and his Birdhouse Skateboards team kicked off the Quiksilver, Birdhouse Skateboards MIA to NYC Tour powered by Tech Deck on August 21st at the West Wind Skatepark in Miami, FL. I caught up with them in Tampa on Aug 22nd. This year’s line-up includes skateboarding legends Tony Hawk, Kevin Staab and Willy Santos, along with an amazing crew of Birdhouse team amateurs, including Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Riley Hawk, Shawn Hale, Clint Walker, David Loy, Shaun Gregoire and Elliot Sloan. Back in 2007 I was Tony's PA on the Boom Boom Huck Jam Tour, so it was great to catch up again.

Hanging Out With The Birdman

Yesterday I spent my day in Tampa hanging out with Tony Hawk and the rest of the Birdhouse crew. Was amazing to be on the vert ramp, hanging out with Willy Santos and just watch these guys skate. They have so much passion for what they do. I'll post more pictures later from this epic adventure.

Lego Goes Old School, Hippie Style

I thought I knew what I wanted for my birthday until I saw this beauty... a VW Lego Westfalia Camper Van. Like this doesn't bring back awesome memories from your childhood.

Lego is paying tribute to this 1962 VW legend when this model comes out in October of this year. According to the model's designer, the hardest thing was translating the VW's curves to brick form, but it looks like they got as close as possible and looks flawless to me.

Skateboarding Is Not A Crime... It's Art

I've blogged about Kilian Martin before a while back and now he's done it again.

I grew up admiring skating legends like Jamie Thomas, Christian Hosoi, Chad Muska, Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston and of course the pioneer of skateboarding himself, Rodney Mullen. I was convinced no one would ever be as good as Rodney, I mean he invented the ollie, kickflip, heelflip, impossible, the list goes on. But now there's a new kid on the block that has the skill to be Rodney's successor... Kilian Martin.

Brett Novak, a Chicago native, is always right next to Kilian, filming his every move. Brett is a follow Full Sail University alumni and he's making a big name for himself. Here is Brett's latest creation, blowing up a lot of steam online and it's the third time in a row Tony Hawk tweeted his video.

I Am The Trend, or am I?

If you're like me, you read iamthetrend.com everyday for the latest in indie clothing, music and art. Adam Hendle is the brainchild behind this resource of awesomeness and I'm very confident no one knows more about the indie world then him.
