Record Store Day 2013.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you Jack White; Record Store Day 2013 Ambassador.

"Years ago someone told me that 1,200 high school kids were given a survey. A question was posed to them: Have you ever been to a stand-alone record shop? The number of kids that answered "yes" was... zero.

Zero? How could that be possible? Then I got realistic and thought to myself, "Can you blame them?" How can record shops (or any shop for that matter) compete with Netflix, TiVo, video games that take months to complete, cable, texting, the Internet, etc. etc? Getting out of your chair at home to experience something in the real world has started to become a rare occurrence, and to a lot of people, an unnecessary one. Why go to a bookstore and get a real book? You can just download it. Why talk to other human beings, discuss different authors, writing styles and influences? Just click your mouse. Well here's what they'll someday learn if they have a soul; there's no romance in a mouse click. There's no beauty in sitting for hours playing video games (anyone proud of that stop reading now and post your opinion in the nearest forum). The screen of an iPhone is convenient, but it’s no comparison to a 70mm showing of a film in a gorgeous theater. The Internet is two-dimensional…helpful and entertaining, but no replacement for face-to-face interaction with a human being. But we all know all of that, right? Well, do we? Maybe we know all that, but so what?

Let's wake each other up.

The world hasn't stopped moving. Out there, people are still talking to each other face-to-face, exchanging ideas and turning each other on. Art houses are showing films, people are drinking coffee and telling tall tales, women and men are confusing each other and record stores are selling discs full of soul that you haven’t felt yet. So why do we choose to hide in our caves and settle for replication? We know better. We should at least. We need to re-educate ourselves about human interaction and the difference between downloading a track on a computer and talking to other people in person and getting turned onto music that you can hold in your hands and share with others. The size, shape, smell, texture and sound of a vinyl record; how do you explain to that teenager who doesn't know that it's a more beautiful musical experience than a mouse click? You get up off your ass, you grab them by the arm and you take them there. You put the record in their hands. You make them drop the needle on the platter. Then they'll know.

Let's wake each other up.

As Record Store Day Ambassador of 2013 I’m proud to help in any way I can to invigorate whoever will listen with the idea that there is beauty and romance in the act of visiting a record shop and getting turned on to something new that could change the way they look at the world, other people, art, and ultimately, themselves.
Let's wake each other up."

Trailer Tuesday - The Internship

Ever since the success of Wedding Crashers with the amazing acting duo, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, we all hoped for Wedding Crashers 2 or even Funeral Crashers, but we got something better; a completely new script with our old friends.

The Internship will hit theaters June 7th in the US and will be one of the must see summer movies for sure. I hope the trailer didn't spoil too much (you know, that's what trailers usually do) but nonetheless it's worth checking out.

New Music Monday - Moving House

We first featured Moving House in our Best of 2012 report as Best New Artist and Most Anticipated Album of 2013. But now the wait is over folks; Moving House has released their self-titled debut album. I spoke to lead singer and founding member, Andre Gideon Montgomery Pienaar (I know it's a mouthful) recently and he said the response has been overwhelming and very positive all around. Not even his iPhone's battery could stand the attention the day of release and died on him very quickly.

Their story reminds me of The Postal Service; since Andre (right) and Rob (left) live on opposite sides of South Africa they used the country's amazing bandwidth (sarcasm) to send each other tracks they worked on.

A long with their debut album you can also check out their debut music video directed by the very talented Andre Gideon Montgomery Pienaar.
Moving House - Tongue In Cheek

The music quality coming from the South African music scene has been on point looking back on the past few years and proving to everyone that they can run with 'big boys' in the world of music. We are going to see many more great things come from Moving House and we can not wait to see what they are going to do next.

Michael Jordan 50th.

NBA Hall of Fame inductee and probably the best basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan celebrated his 50th birthday yesterday. Rumors were going around that MJ might play a few minutes in the All Star game but sadly that didn't happen. To celebrate the greatness of MJ and just to show you once again why this man is a legend, icon and role model for so many, lets take a look at the 50 best plays of his career.

Trailer Tuesday - Now You See Me

Every Tuesday we will be hosting "Trailer Tuesday" on the blog. It's the latest feature on our blog and to start it off we give you "Now You See Me". FBI agents track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money. Sounds interesting enough but now add Morgan Freeman, Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson and we have a magic party. Some are predicting a modern day "The Prestige" and I think they might be right just by watching the trailer. "Now You See Me" will hit theaters June 7th, 2013 in the US.

New Music Monday - The Inscape

I think it is only right that I start the week off strong and I cannot think of a better band than The Inscape. Originating from Nashville, Tennessee, The Inscape consists of John Condit on vocals and guitar, Robert Hudson on bass, Jesse Clardy on guitar, and Zach Robinson on drums. John Condit and myself met for the first time at Belmont University while we were touring the school back in 2008. John ended up pursuing his studies at Belmont while I decided to move to Orlando, Florida and attend Full Sail University. I knew from the first day I met John that he will do amazing work in music and now I can share that with you for the first time.

Their grungy, raw, blues rock sound is a reflection from their musical influences like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane and Quiksilver Messenger Service. As soon as John's vocals blasts you in the face you get the feeling that Jack White's soul lives within and all you are left to do is listen and enjoy the sharp melodic guitar riffs take over your body. "No Expectations" is the title of their debut EP and is available for purchase right HERE. You can catch them live at The Mercy Lounge, Nashville, TN – February 18, 2013 and at the Carousel Lounge, Austin, TX – March 15, 2013. For more info check out the official website             www.theinscape.com

Fall Out Boy is back.

Yes you remember those guys; they were the only thing you would see on MTV for a while, not to mention they took over TRL for a period of time too. But now the guys settled their differences, Pete Wentz put his dick back in his pants and life as a band can continue. Their new album will be released worldwide May 6th & 7th and is titled "Save Rock and Roll". I wouldn't call on these guys to 'save rock n roll' but what can you do, I guess they can try.
