Purple Gorilla Series 1 T-Shirt Sneak Peek 2

Each shirt comes with custom packaging and a hand numbered tag made out to you! These tags (and the packaging stickers) were printed in South Africa. I have to support my roots (Yes, I'm South African) and I will work with more companies there in the future.

Do I see a storm coming next week?

Purple Gorilla Series 1 T-Shirt Sneak Peek

Up until the official release of Series 1, I'll be posting sneak peeks and updates regarding the first limited edition shirt, launch of the official website (www.purplegorilla.co - start bookmarking) and lookbook commercial.

Here's the first peek to get your taste buds tingling...

Ashtray Electric Tunnels Music Video

My very good friends from Ashtray Electric have done it again! They just recently released their brand new music video from their 2nd LP "Measure In Falls". The video was shot in Ceres and yes it does snow in South Africa.

The coolest thing about their new album, which is very original, is the way they created the album cover. The album cover shot features actual DNA strands of the bandmembers. Each band member had the inside of their cheeks swabbed with an ear bud. The epithelial (skin cell) tissue extracted from each member was lysed (breaking down of the cell wall) to expose the entire genetic genome into the lysed material. The DNA was then purified from all other cellular bodies and amplified using PCR technology. Each sample of DNA was then cut using a cocktail of enzymes and run in separate lanes on a Electrophoresis Gell giving rise to the 4 smears witnessed on the image. The broken bands in the 5th lane is a simple molecular weight marker. How's that for you?

Purple Gorilla T-Shirt: Series 1

I think it's time I explain our first shirt release more in detail so you know what we're all about.
When I first started Purple Gorilla it was always going to be a t-shirt company, but other projects came my way and I had to change it to an independent design studio. We did all the marketing and branding for the Rock For Hunger Music Festival here in Orlando, FL last year and that kept us extremely busy for about 5 months straight. After that we made a fully animated music video for a collaboration song between the very popular South African indie rock band, Ashtray Electric and Gazelle.

So after the dust settled I had more time to focus on the real reason I started Purple Gorilla... t-shirts, but most importantly art. Each shirt that we produce is Limited Edition with only 100 shirts made with every release. Each shirt comes with custom packaging and is hand numbered with a personal message from yours truly.

So that's the story in a nutshell, I've got a lot more up my sleeve (I can't tell you everything at once!)

I'm BACK!

First things first, sorry for the lack of blog updates. You know how things get, well some of you do. Early July was mostly spent at my second home (at the time), Enemy Ink where Series 1 was printed. Brad (owner), Jami and the whole crew were amazing and helped me out a whole lot. Their attention to detail and customer satisfaction was a big driving force to the success of the printing and design process. I'll be posting more pictures of the entire printing process as we get closer to launch.
