The RamFest Nation.

The South African music industry, in my opinion, is one of the most unique examples of music progression in the world. I was born and raised in South Africa and lived there full-time until I was 18. While I was in high school during the mid 2000's we didn't have cool music fests and big local bands. We were stuck with American and British punk-rock for the longest time before Fokofpolisiekar (Fuck-Off Police car) came around and shook everyone out of their political correctness with their deep lyrics, insane stage presence and enough drinking to kill a small horse but even with all that, it took about 6 years before we started to see a change in the music scene in general.

Now we have big music festivals, large international acts touring to South Africa and finally we are getting some recognition. Keep in mind South Africa has exported some amazing international talent including Dave Matthews (Dave Matthews Band), Seether, Civil Twilight, Die Antwoord and even Oscar winning actress, Charlize Theron.

Boom.fm is a South African music website and they are releasing a documentary on this amazing music scene and how it's grown to be the tamed monster we see today. The 5-city Ramfest tour, a first for South Africa, serves as the backdrop for the in-depth analysis of the ins and outs of the local rock music industry from the perspective of international and local bands, promoters, brands and music journalists.

Part 1 looks at this year's nationwide Ramfest and gets the opinions of the organizers and bands involved.

Part 2 explores what it takes for local and international bands to achieve success.

Part 3 examines the role that brands can play in the South African rock music scene and how brands and bands can capitalize on the investment.
